TK&A is dedicated to making environmentally conscious decisions regarding the architectural building products we specify. Realizing the lack of standardized, affirmative industry data and the impact of building materials on human health, we conduct ongoing product research. Standardized reporting protocols are now a mandatory requirement of any vendor seeking to host educational sessions in our office or display their products in our materials library. As of March 2013, our written policy was sent to our entire vendor network requiring them to adopt and provide the Health Product Declaration (HPD) as a voluntary, open source for reporting product content and health information on materials. We have also asked vendors to post their products on Pharos, a materials search engine and analysis tool. Standardized reporting will streamline our process, allowing our designers to research and access the healthiest products faster. These tools and our approach will ultimately help our clients limit risks to building users. We will continue to strive to establish more stringent sustainability milestones and push manufacturers of materials to reduce and eliminate "Chemicals of Concern" from their processes.
