The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution whose mission is to discover precise genomic solutions for disease and empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health.
Situated on 16 acres adjacent to the University of Connecticut Health Center’s Farmington campus, JAX Genomic Medicine is a new laboratory designed collaboratively by TK&A and Centerbrook. Research conducted there will benefit from knowledge-sharing and collaborative relationships with a multitude of institutional research, government and private business partners. The facility will create a collaborative and adaptable research environment, to facilitate the dissemination of new knowledge and forge a collegial community as the epicenter of this new scientific cluster.
- Flexibility of design is paramount to supporting a variety of research paradigms and changing lab ratio needs. Glass “membranes” separate the dry and wet lab spaces, maximizing the penetration of natural light.
- The facility will house 300 biomedical researchers, technicians and support staff in advanced computing facilities and laboratories, with an emphasis on shared core lab resources
- A focus on sustainable design measures such as: energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality (IEQ), rainwater harvesting and site conservation creates a healthy laboratory environment that will support groundbreaking genomic discoveries.
