The Roberts Proton Therapy Center is the world’s largest proton facility to be fully integrated into the campus of an academic medical center and one of only nine such facilities in the United States. The center was completed in conjunction with a new, 500,000-square-foot outpatient facility, designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects | Perkins Eastman, that includes a state-of-the-art cancer center and a 12-story translational research tower, that sits atop the proton center.
- First-of-its-kind facility houses a 220-ton cyclotron and five treatment rooms, including four rotating gantries and one fixed-beam room, capable of treating 3,000 patients a year.
- Main proton treatment floor is aligned with the Radiation/Oncology Department at the concourse level of the outpatient facility, providing adult and pediatric patients with a single point of access to a full range of imaging and conventional radiation therapies.
- Co-location of clinical and research environments promotes interaction and communication between physicians and researchers and advances translational medicine model.
